Meet Sara and Rex,
both are certified Bed Bug Dogs, trained by the Florida Canine
Academy. Each has over 800 hours of training to detect bed bugs
in commercial and residential buildings. Both were originally
rescued from a shelter in South Florida and is now helping
Action Termite and Pest Control protect the environment of our
customers. |
ACCURATE PROVEN TRUSTED -
A trained
professional inspector will only detect visible signs of bed bugs in a room with
an accuracy rate of only about 30%. To find activity inside walls, baseboards,
even under carpets, a room would have to otherwise be stripped down beyond the
bare walls! Due to a dog’s keen sense of smell, our trained dog can detect bed
bugs even inside walls - with 90% accuracy, making his inspection a more
thorough and accurate one. A more accurate detection means that if there is bed
bug activity, our dog will be alerted to it and control measures can begin.
Also note, no preps are needed prior to the dog.

Action Welcomes Cassie the Bed Bug Dog
Bed Bug Division Growing Again
June 30 2009, Toms River, New Jersey:
Action Termite and Pest Control is pleased to announce the
arrival of Cassie the Bed Bug Dog. Cassie, a certified bed
bug detection dog, was trained by the Master Trainer, Bill
Whitstein of the Florida Canine Academy. Cassie,
a beautiful female Black Labrador mixed with German Shepard
that was rescued from a Florida Animal Shelter,
received over 800 hours of training for the detection of bed
bugs.

Over the past few years, bed bug infestations have risen to
levels unseen for more than 50 years. The north east of the
United States has become a hot spot for infestation.
"Our bed bug division has increased dramatically over the
last year or so" commented John Russell, General Manager of
Action Termite and Pest Control. "In the past we may have
received one or two calls a year. Now we are receiving 10
to 15 calls a day."
Cassie will join the
hardworking bed bug dogs at Action that include, Sara and
Rex. Both Sara and Rex, have been called into action in New
Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. The addition of Cassie
to our bed bug division will improve our response time for
our customers and give them extra flexibility in scheduling
a bed bug dog detection inspection. |

trusted. They have enabled Action to grow even in this economy"
commented John Russell. "We were able to increase our staff by 25%
over the last year, thanks to the addition of our bed bug dogs. Not
only are our bed bug dogs helping residents with bed bug
infestations, they are putting good people to work." |

How man’s best friend can help him
evict his nastiest bedmate
by

Dog Bites Bug
“You see this?” says John
Russell of New Jersey’s Action Termite & Pest Control,
pointing into an overstuffed Manhattan closet where one of
his dogs, a black Lab named Sara, has indicated a problem.
“Clutter! That’s why bedbugs are so hard to find.” The
apartment’s tenant, who has lived in his one-bedroom for 34
years, hovers nearby. When Sara noses one of the many
jackets within, the tenant grabs it. “I’ll just throw it
out,” he says, ushering the garment into the hallway.
Sara isn’t one of Peruyero’s
dogs, but a graduate of a competing outfit, the Florida
Canine Academy, which claims to have been the first to enter
the bedbug business, and also certifies teams to detect
bombs, drugs, money, weapons, termites, and arson. Florida
Canine’s trainees, selected for their work ethic, drive, and
desire to please, are taught to gesture with their nose,
because, “dogs who give the paw,” the owner, Bill Whitstine,
says scornfully, “can scratch furniture or end up spreading
the bugs around.”
